What Fears Come Up for You?

Fear is part of the cancer experience — whether it's recurrence, the unknown, or something you haven't said out loud yet. This is a space to share it honestly.
- What fears have you experienced with cancer?
- Do they come and go or feel constant?
- Has anything helped you sit with them, even a little?

  1. I fear and worry about my spoiled cat Harvey. He’s been with me since May last year when I was diagnosed. He’s 1 1/2 years old and he likes to bite. I worry about what will happen to him.

    1. I see him now! Thank you for sharing. What a beautiful cat! I'm glad he is such a support to you. Warmly, Kathy (Team member)

    2. Harvey is beautiful! I am so sorry that your children and other family members aren't able to help you during this time. Loneliness is an unfortunate byproduct of cancer. You aren't alone, as this article attests. We all owe a thank you to Harvey! Who else here has a supportive pet? Warmly, Kathy (Team member)

  2. My fear is recurrence or spread. Mucosal melanomas are known to be very aggressive and the 5 year survival rate is less than 35%. Although my surgery was successful, the only post-operative treatment is surveillance. As the date for a full body scan approaches, I grow apprehensive. But, so far, so good. While this might strike some as perverse, I actually engage in dialogue with an AI platform and that helps me to keep perspective.

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience. Scanxiety is a real thing for many of our community members. You aren't alone! You aren't alone in using AI for emotional or factual support. It's becoming more and more common. AI sort of takes all that's out there and summarizes it for us, and that can be helpful. (Just remember that AI can pull from sources that aren't factual, as well as from the factual ones. So please take what it says with a grain of salt). Do you also have some "live" support in your family? All the best, Kathy (Team member)
