Immunotherapy Track: How often and how much do you meet with your Oncology Team?

How often and how much do you meet with your Oncology Team? Just got CT scan results and it referred to a previously (3 months prior) viewed adrenal gland increase I had zero knowledge of and was not in my previous prior three month scan CT document. How much are we entitled to know? How often are we allowed to meet with Team? Have you ever asked for a meeting? Result?

  1. Bi-annually. Went from quarterly to bi-annual when Dr. said after team meeting it was decided since I was doing so well on the Imbruvica Oral treatment after 5 years that they decided to allow bi-annual visits. Tho, I was to continue the quarterly labs (Dr. didn't mention the knowledge point, but I think that TOO helped determine I was ok on bi-annual follow-up visits too) cause I asked loads of questions about how to read the labs from the start, Dr. willingly shared how when I asked.

8 years in 17 days (7 - 16/17 - 2018 started treatment) and still doing well on the drug.

    1. It sounds like meeting with your oncology team regularly has been good, from both a treatment and communication perspective. Thanks for sharing. Warmly, Kathy (Team member)

  2. This must be very frustrating. While the answers of how often do depend on the situation and the type of cancer, too often people find is that they must take charge of their health care to avoid falling through the cracks, or worse, medical gaslighting. Here's an article that lists some good questions to ask your doctor to start things off with your oncologist. Please know that you may always ask questions and advocate for yourself. Warmly, Kathy (Team member)
